Principal's Message

Welcome to Eastman Avenue Elementary School, the home of the Eagles!

My name is Laura Naulls, and this is my fifth year serving as a humble principal and third year here at Eastman. My parents immigrated from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico when I was in the third grade with the hope that I would be able to have a better future in the United States through education. I am the only child of Daniel and Rosa Martinez, wife for over 27 years and the mother to seven amazing people and fur parent of 2 sweet English bulldogs.  I graduated from Jefferson High School, LAUSD and attended University of La Verne where I earned my BA and  Master's of Education Degree. I have been an educator and champion for bilingual education for 28 years.

I share a part of me because I want you to have the same hopes and  dreams for your children that  my parents had for me as they championed and advocated for me to achieve my dreams and goals through education. I believe that if a little girl like me who was undocumented and did not speak English is able to become the principal of a school, then there is nothing preventing your child from achieving their dreams and aspirations. It is because of teachers and staff like the ones you will find at Eastman,  and the support of my family that I was able to succeed.

At Eastman we value and support learning through culture, tradition, and language. We have an amazing staff with similar stories  like mine of facing and overcoming challenges that make us the school of choice were all things are possible and nothing is impossible to achieve. I have witnessed first hand the special bond our school community has with your families that extend beyond our school buildings. There have so many people I have met that have walked through our Eastman doors and are now serving our communities as educators, counselors, therapist, officers, and politicians.

We are ready for you and your child to walk through our doors as you let go of your child's hand, give your blessing and trust us to prepare your child to learn to advocate for self and others, be open minded, adaptable and become an effective communicator.

At Eastman our teachers and staff have been planning and preparing to implement LAUSD's 2022-26 Strategic Plan with a singular goal: to ensure ALL students graduate READY FOR THE WORLD! to thrive in college, career, and life. This Strategic Plan represents a promise to our entire Los Angeles Unified community that we will achieve this goal.

To our parents, I want to reassure you that we are preparing our school to maintain a safe  and nurturing environment but we will need your support.  We believe that your involvement is an essential component to the academic success of your child now more than ever and with your support, we will  work together to keep our children and our school community safe.  I encourage you to become a volunteer, attend our monthly Eagle Parent Forum meetings, join a committees, and support our Eastman PTA.   On behalf of our teachers and staff, we are dedicated to building a better future for our students. WE ARE READY!

In Partnership,

Mrs. Naulls, Principal
